When the 1969 Dodge Daytona came out Richard Petty had a problem. He was a Plymouth driver but he wanted so badly to be driving one of those new Dodge Daytona's he gave Chrysler an ultimatium. Either make me a Dodge guy or I am leaving. They said no, so he said good bye. In 1969 after so many years of success with Plymouth Richard Petty raced a FORD! It did not last too long. In 1970 to lure Petty back Plymouth came out with their own version of the Dodge Daytona the Plymouth Superbird. Petty came back and the rest is history.
